Project Overview

Providing IDPs in the district of Kharan with water and sanitation services and health and hygiene education.

Project Background

On June 23 2007, Cyclone Yemyin struck Pakistan and was followed by several days of monsoon rain. The resulting floods affected over 2 million people in the province of Balochistan. Two hundred and thirteen people were killed, vital crops were washed away, government infrastructure destroyed and thousands left homeless.

Project Objectives:

To provide relief to flood victims.

    Over the years IR has provided communities with public services, such as water and education. We have now moved towards a ‘rights-based approach’, helping communities to become self-sufficient and encouraging them to expect their governments to provide adequate public services.

    IR works in partnership with communities, aid agencies, local organisations and governments.
