On Thursday 26th February, 2004, Dr. Anwar Majed Eshki, chairman of the Saudi-based think tank, the Middle East Center for Strategic and Legal Studies, visited Islamic Relief’s headquarters in Birmingham, UK.

The visit to Islamic Relief was part of his effort to explore the possibility of increased co-operation between humanitarian organisations in Saudi Arabia and their counterparts in the UK

Dr. Eshki was taken on a guided tour of Islamic Relief’s Birmingham headquarters, and met staff from several departments before being invited to give a short talk.

He commended Islamic Relief’s financial transparency, and said that he would urge Saudi aid agencies to adopt similar accounting procedures.

Dr. Eshki also said that charitable institutions are the foundation on which the Islamic civilisation is built, and that it would be impossible to solve the problems of the modern world without organisations such as Islamic Relief.
