Anwar’s story
12 May 2009
.
Anwar Khan is a nine-year-old orphan who is unable to speak. He is living in Sheikh Shezaad camp in Mardan with his mother, two brothers and younger sister.
Anwar and his family are internally displaced people who fled Mingora in Swat. They had been living with Anwar’s grandfather who was a farmer but they have no idea whether or not he is still alive.
The family are deeply concerned and Anwar is traumatised by what he is experiencing. They are crying with worry and barely eating or sleeping. They have no clothes other than what they are wearing. They would have brought a few essential items with them when they fled but the children were too young to carry anything.

Around 80 per cent of those displaced by the violence are thought to be children. Most have fled with their mothers and siblings but some are all alone as they became separated from their families on the way. Islamic Relief is on the ground and with your help, will be supporting children like Anwar. Please donate here to help those displaced by the violence.
